Tiger-Rock Martial Arts has Seven Meadows TaeKwonDo near me. For 20 years, we have been teaching students in Katy the Way of the Hand and the Fist. Our instructors, Master Pollard and Master Reade have over 30 years of experience each. We are excited to pass down the incredibly gratifying discipline of TaeKwonDo to students of all ages.
About TaeKwonDo
TaeKwonDo is Korean for “the Way “Do” of the Foot “Tae” and the Fist “Kwon.” Relative to other martial arts, The Way is fairly new. It came out of the aftermath of World War II. After Korea was free of the Japanese occupation, the old martial artists were able to practice freely. TaeKwonDo formed out of an amalgamation of older, pre-war martial arts from China and Korea, Taekkyon, Subak, Gwonbeop, and the Okinawan Karate. The Way emphasizes head-height kicks, side kicks, spinning kicks, and striking.
Kids and Teen TaeKwonDo Classes
For our students from 4 to 6 years old, we offer our Cub Program. Our classes will be some of the most fun they have all week. Additionally, they learn symmetrical movements, balance, and coordination. Here, in class, they learn valuable social skills, how to treat each other with respect, and walk with integrity.
Kids from ages 6 to 10 enroll in our Junior Program. This is probably the best age for a kid to get the most out of a martial art. It channels high and positive energy into a healthy outlet. They begin our speed and agility drills, practice stances and form, and start martial arts exercises like striking and kicking drills. We teach our anti-bullying education and self-defense for real life as well.
Our Teen Classes are for those ages 11 to 15. These are our formative years. So, we must put the most into them. Tiger-Rock’s TaeKwonDo has the opportunity for competition and leadership that pushes you to be better than yesterday. Mastering TaeKwonDo requires and builds discipline and character. Seven Meadows TaeKwonDo near me is a perfect after-school extra-curricular.

The Many Benefits of TaeKwonDo
TaeKwonDo will improve all parts of you. The improvements will be as direct and expected as getting stronger and as indirect and a surprise as sharpening your concentration and focus. There are also happy side effects that you might even be after, such as self-discipline. After all, martial arts does primarily seek out to build character on its students.
Character
Tiger-Rock Martial Arts’ five key tenets are honor, humility, perseverance, respect, and loyalty. We demand to see these character traits every practice we see you at. And the training requires and builds the discipline and self-restraint you want to see too.
Probably, the most significant takeaway a student of ours will walk away with is more integrity in their heart. The physical gains that one might want to take from our workouts can only come when one is honest with oneself. Each student keeps themselves accountable. There is no cheating to get to the results they want.
You can also look at integrity in martial arts by remembering that TaeKwonDo is a self-defense technique. Therefore, it is a method by which we do not enact violence but subdue it and aggression in our attack and ourselves with self-restraint. In other words, TaeKwonDo teaches the student to live in upright moral ways.
Physical Fitness
As we said before, TaeKwonDo is a full-body workout. We practice our flexibility with stretching and our head-height and spinning kicks. Our running drills warm-up our cardiovascular endurance. Our calisthenics, strength, core, and conditioning training, push-ups, sit-ups, squats, and the like build your muscular strength and endurance. The repetitive practice of our drills creates muscle memory and fine-tunes motor skills. TaeKwonDo exercises all facets of fitness, body composition, cardiovascular health, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility.
Cooperation and Competition
Not only is TaeKwonDo a traditional martial art from Korea but also a sport. In fact, in 2000, The Way became an official Olympic sport. In addition, there are major tournaments conducted through the World TaeKwonDo Federation and the International TaeKwon-Do Federation. We host three competitions a year, in Fall, Spring, and Summer.
Even at practice, competition and camaraderie are felt. During sparing, our students learn with one another as they use their techniques against one another. And they trade off setting each other’s’ drills up for one another. Together, they motivate one another.
Anti-Bullying
Bullying needs to be taken seriously as an issue in a child’s life. It causes drama and is a constant source of anxiety. It ebbs away at their self-confidence, esteem, and image.
Luckily though, one can deal with bullying. Our anti-bullying education covers awareness, communication and self-defense. For example, stances, tone, and diction we teach that convey confidence can help avoid an escalated situation. Otherwise, your child will have the tools they need to defend themselves.
