Kickboxing

If you enjoy our Sugar Land TX self defense classes, consider trying our Kickboxing classes!
This form of mixed martial arts is derived from Karate, Taekwondo, and other martial arts like Muay Thai.
There is one major difference between many of these martial arts and Kickboxing – the points of contact include only the hands and feet. No elbow strikes or knee strikes allowed.
Kickboxing is mainly used as a high-intensity interval training style full-body workout or cardio workout.
While it offers you an incredible workout, Kickboxing is also a great way to practice the strikes and blocks you learn in our Sugar Land TX self defense classes. Kickboxing classes offer a safe and encouraging environment for you to continue building strength, speed, and stamina while adding more techniques to your skillset.
From here, you could choose to move on to our Taekwondo classes to further build your discipline, skills, and self-confidence.
Taekwondo
One of the world’s most popular martial arts, Taekwondo was developed following WWII. This Korean martial art borrows from ancient Korean, Chinese, and Japanese traditions. The emphasis of Taekwondo is agility. A typical session will include kicking, striking, blocking, and speed drills.
At more advanced levels, these drills will include harder techniques such as head-height, jumping, or spinning kicks or even the breaking of plastic or wooden boards.
Throughout your Taekwondo journey, you will work to improve your discipline, flexibility, speed, and stamina. There will also be local, statewide, and nationwide opportunities for you to compete in using the skills you have learned if you should choose to.
Beyond its physical demands and benefits, Taekwondo instills several tenets in its athletes, including honor, humility, perseverance, respect, loyalty, good citizenship, and self-discipline.

Karate translates from Japanese to mean “empty hand.”
Taekwondo vs Karate – Key Differences
Taekwondo and Karate hold many similarities in tradition, values, and practice. The name of this Japanese martial art, Karate, translates to empty hand. There are two main differences between the two styles.
Firstly, as the name suggests, Karate athletes do not typically use weapons. However, Taekwondo athletes often use weapons, including the Bo staff, fan, kama, and katana or other swords.
Secondly, both martial arts practice sparring or the practical application of techniques learned against a live partner. In Taekwondo, the two individuals sparring will attempt to make contact with each strike, kick, and block. However, most of those who practice Karate do not make contact while sparring.
Learn Something New
If you choose to participate in our Sugar Land TX self defense classes or our Kickboxing or Taekwondo classes, you will learn new things that you can appreciate both today and in the future.
You will improve your health over time as you practice your drills and skills. You will improve your social skills as you meet new people at classes and competitions. And most importantly, your self-confidence will grow as you learn a new skill set that allows you to take care of yourself in a whole new way.
Learn how to properly and safely kick and make a fist, block an attack, and get out of any hold as you gain the skills and confidence to defend yourself. Practice and improve these skills in our other classes with drills and sparring.
