All of our classes teach you the skills, tools, and techniques to defend yourself and stay safe, but our Kickboxing and Taekwondo classes focus more on practice drills and learning techniques than discussing personal safety.
You can enroll in any of our beginner level classes at any time, but one path we recommend is taking our Fort Bend self-defense classes, then expanding into our Kickboxing class to practice the skills you learned. Next, you can learn harder techniques and improve your disciple through our Taekwondo classes.

Some common strikes you might learn include punches, hammer fists, elbow strikes, knee strikes, palm heel strikes, front kicks, and sidekicks.
Learning effective targets on the body will teach you how to match stronger points on your body such as your elbow or knee with weaker points on your attacker’s body, such as the eyes, nose, throat, and groin.
These classes combine the learning and understanding of these techniques with increasing your situational awareness, teaching you how to be loud and what to say when needed, and safe ways of escaping simple holds such as wrist grabs. Learning these self-defense skills in the encouraging environment provided by our classes will lower your stress levels and greatly increase your self-confidence.

Kickboxing

If you enjoy our Fort Bend self-defense classes, consider trying our Kickboxing classes!
Most people have heard of kickboxing in the context of high-intensity interval training or cardio workouts. While it does offer a powerful workout, our Kickboxing classes also offer a safe and encouraging place to practice the techniques and skills you learn in your self-defense classes.
Kickboxing is a form of mixed martial arts. This means it borrows from the traditions, techniques, and tenets of various other martial arts. Some that inspired Kickboxing include Taekwondo, Karate, Krav Maga, Jiu-Jitsu, and Muay Thai.
What makes Kickboxing unique from these individual forms? The fact that you are only allowed to strike your opponent with your hands or feet. No knee or elbow strikes allowed!
What Is Taekwondo?
Taekwondo is a Korean martial art that borrows from ancient Korean, Chinese, and Japanese traditions, values, and fighting styles. It places a heavy emphasis on agility through kicking, striking, blocking, and speed drills.
As you advance in rank, you will have opportunities to learn harder techniques and practice your techniques in more challenging ways. Some higher-difficulty kicks include head-height, jumping, or spinning kicks. The equipment you practice on will also advance from target paddles, padded shields, and punching bags, to live opponents and plastic or wooden boards.
Alongside its emphasis on agility, Taekwondo instills many tenets in its martial artists, including honor, humility, perseverance, respect, loyalty, good citizenship, and self-discipline.
How Is Karate Different?
These two martial arts have a few major similarities – the use of a dojo, similar uniforms, and the use of choreographed forms. These forms are known in Karate as katas.
Forms and katas both involve a pre-choreographed series of movements meant to encourage power within techniques and flow between the techniques used.
While Taekwondo and Karate have many similarities, they have two very important differences. The first is a major difference in the practice of sparring.
Sparring is a type of practical application of the techniques you learn against a live opponent. When martial artists who practice Taekwondo spar, their strikes and blocks make contact with their opponent. When martial artists practice Karate spar, however, they do not make contact.

Karate translates from Japanese to mean “empty hand
The second major distinction comes from the word Karate.
Karate translates from Japanese to mean empty hand.
This is important in karate in two ways. Firstly, this refers to the emphasis on open-hand techniques over closed techniques like punches or hammer fists.
Secondly, this refers to the lack of weapons used when practicing Karate. This differs from Taekwondo, where it is common for martial artists to learn to use one or more weapons. These weapons commonly include swords like katanas, bo staffs, fans, and kamas.
