Fort Bend Taekwondo
Taekwondo literally means the art of kicking and punching, or a more general meaning would be the “art of unarmed combat.” “Tae” means “foot” or “kick or jump,” “Kwon” means “fist,” or “to block or strike,” and finally “Do” means “the way of” or “art.”
Before the first-century, Taekwondo originated in Korea, specifically in the Koguryo kingdom, but the Silla’s Hwarang warriors were credited for spreading it around the country.
Silla was the smallest kingdom of the country at that time and was constantly attacked by the Japanese pirates. The warriors were given military aid from King Gwanggaeto from the Koguryo kingdom to drive out the pirates.
Select Silla warriors were trained in Taekkyon, which is the original art form of Taekwondo. Taekkyon trained warriors became known as HwaRang warriors who studied Buddhism, Confucian philosophy, ethics, and much more. This is such an interesting art because all of their combat stemmed from knowledge, spirituality, and physical strength!

Below you will find this primary form listed:
- The white belt symbolizes the student’s first stage of the art, also described as the beginner or one who lacks knowledge of the form.
- The symbolic meaning behind the yellow belt is “the seed being planted,” identifying the individual’s stage as “in-between.”
- The green belt means that the individual is beginning to “grow.”
- The blue belt indicates that the individual or “plant” wants to grow as high as the sky or higher.
- The red belt is a sign that the student is becoming very powerful and must always remain disciplined!

Now that you have a better understanding of what Taekwondo is and where it originated. I hope you are ready to take your skills to the next level! We offer striking and kicking drills that are the most viable in our adult program.
These particular physical activities build up upper body strength and increase agility. These exercises also assist in balance and motility. We also challenge your speed and accuracy with drills that perfect movement and your equilibrium.
The Importance of Self-defense
Self-defense is essential living in this chaotic world; that is why we offer essential combative skills that will keep you and potentially others around you safer.

Taekwondo eliminates traditional European weapons such as guns or knives and replaces them with the individual who is equipped with the knowledge, self-awareness, and physical strength. With this weapon, you still encourage life.
While using a knife or a gun could potentially destroy the antagonizer, not allowing them like yourself to grow and become more than a threat. Not only will you learn how to strike and block, but you will likewise learn how to reduce the threat of antagonizers.
